The FinderMonkey Weekly - Week 20 FinderMonkey

Welcome to the FinderMonkey Weekly.

Its our weekly deep dive into the world of people tracing.

This week’s video is a must watch…

Our Head Reseacher David Oates talks of a recent case in which he highlights something common and really important in most searches that we conduct.

Contact and the reactions of making contact.

And why it’s so important to use an intermediary once the person you’re looking for is found.

In this recent example he reviews a recent case where we were helping someone that has been adopted reconnect with their birth mother. Once found (as in all cases) we made the contact with them through our Ofsted Rated Outstanding Intermediary Team at Joanna North Associates.

It took some time but once contact was received, we really got to uncover the reason why it took so long. The birth mother explained her initial reactions to us, her current family never knew of her past and she was scared, worried and nervous not just to reach back out to us abut to also tell her family too.

You see, we understand this is a big deal. Contacting someone out of the blue after many years and be an initial shock. People need time to digest and work out the best way forward for them and we always support them through that too.

Quite often birth mothers can keep adoptions to themselves, it’s not always something they discuss with other family or their children later in life either.

The longer a secret of this nature is kept, generally the harder it is to tell.

We we’re able to reassure and guide her through this to an amicable outcome for everyone and that’s what its all about. It takes time but it has to be done right.

We hope you enjoy the video.

If you were affected but adoption you may be interested to know that we will also be setting up an adult adoption support group soon where you can join a group of other adoptees and a monthly Zoom call (anonymously too if you like).

This will all be headed up by Dr Joanna North in our quest to offer continued support to people affected by adoption.

We’ll keep you all updated on this as it progresses.

See you all next week.
