Person Finder Firm Helps Reunite Footballing Heroes

A football fan who helps to find people for a living has been reuniting many of the surviving ‘Revie Boys’ who played under legendary Leeds United manager Don Revie back in the Sixties.

Ryan Shaw and his firm FinderMonkey use electoral roll search techniques, data searches and a variety of other methods to find people for private and commercial clients but this is the first time the company has contributed to such an historic sporting reunion.

“We’re used to being called in for data cleansing services for businesses, to help find missing relatives and to search for tenants who have absconded or absentee landlords so although this was a very different challenge we knew we had the expertise to help,” said Ryan.

FinderMonkey quickly tracked down 12 of the missing players, including Peter McConnell, who scored four of his five goals for Leeds United in a five game purple patch in the 1961/2 season and Alan Peacock who scored the winning goal against Torino in Leeds United’s first European game in September 1965.

They were reunited for a dinner at Elland Road in October.

“Ryan managed to find the addresses of the missing players for us and when we contacted them they were delighted to be our guests at the Dinner and to have a chance to be reunited with former team mates” said Jim Cadman, who organised the dinner.

Revie was named manager of the year in 1969 and 1970 and led the club to FA Cup victory in ’72. Leeds United were Division One champions in 1968/9 and 1973/4 under his leadership.

Revie Boy Eddie Gray said the manager was the reason he came to play for Leeds.

“Don was way ahead of his time,” recalled Gray, praising Revie’s enthusiasm. “If you had a happy football club you had a fair chance of becoming a successful football club and that is what the club was like in the early 60s.”

The Dinner was part of the fundraising for a seven foot bronze statue of Don Revie that will be unveiled at Elland Road in May 2012 to mark the 40th Anniversary of Leeds United winning the FA Cup Final in 1972.
